The evolution of Oscan stone inscriptions is comparable to that of contemporary Latin and Greek epigraphy, and the most noteworthy features of its development are the choice of the best types of stone for carving inscriptions; the design of lapidary alphabets; the gradual development of abbreviations; and, finally, the use of a wider variety of types of support, better carving methods, more complex models, and interpunctions.
