contents
The following article analyses the origin and characteristics of a political movement, the General Pedro José Méndez Column, which operates in a region of the border state of Tamaulipas (Mexico). From open sources -tens of messages from the organization itself and hemorographic sources-, I deduce the civil and armed double nature of that movement, the ambiguity of the arm wing due to its links with the regional criminal organization of the Gulf Cartel, the construction of an idea of enemy based on Los Zetas criminal organization, a regional perspective, an updating of historical topics and its capability of transcending the political party dynamics. Subsequently, I explain how these features are related to the doctrinal terms of insurgency, paramilitarism and self-defense, to conclude that the Columna movement is one of the highest stages of vigilantism in the current Mexico.
