•
Video B.5 Ti-oxide M25 LA-ICP-MS trace element accessory mineral maps, Dalhaugen steatite quarry, sample RC180409b

In these maps, the darkest purple colours indicate very low (or absent) concentrations of the element for that map. With increasing concentrations of that element, the colour changes across the spectrum from purple through blue, with the brightest cyan tones indicating "very high" concentrations of that element, with respect to the total amounts of that element measured for each sample. For the trace elements the highest concentrations may be only a few ppm, yet still be represented by the bright blue shades for one or more crystals, in contrast to the total absence (very dark purple to black), or much lower levels (brighter purple) of the other crystals analysed. Therefore, the below list of element concentration maps included in this film also indicates which of these elements are the major elements (dominate) of a given crystal, and which are trace elements.

The video sequence (approximate times) is:

00:00 The location of Dalhaugen steatite quarry

00:10 photo of Dalhaugen steatite quarry

00:12 hand sample RC180409b from Dalhaugen steatite quarry

00:15 reflected light image of the fairly square, and inclusion-rich ilmenite crystal, plus surrounding matrix grains analysed as map M25,

00:17 Cr (trace in the chlorite)

00:19 Fe (dominate in the ilmenite crystal, and even higher levels in the pyrite inclusion)

00:22 S (dominate in the pyrite inclusion)

00:24 Co (trace amounts in the pyrite inclusion

00:26 V (trace amounts in the ilmenite crystal

00:29 P (dominate in the apatite)

00:30 Bi (trace amounts in the pyrite inclusion and the apatite)

00:33 Ti (dominate in the ilmenite crystal)

00:36 Mg (dominate in the chlorite and talc)

00:38 Mn (minor amounts in the ilmenite crystal)

00:40 Ni (trace amounts in the pyrite inclusion.

00:42 the reflected light image of the crystals (repeated)

00:45 A collage of all of those maps surrounding the reflected light image.
