When creating the sample frame, data on the number of Chinese adults according to SORS data from 2018 are taken into account. The data were obtained through personal (field) surveys. Exceptionally, the Chinese citizen could fill out the questionnaire himself. The research was conducted by a Chinese student who has lived and studied in Slovenia since she was 10 years old and has a good command of the Slovenian and Chinese languages. It was a random sample that allows for full generalization. In addition to descriptive statistics, we also performed a binomial test to check whether the proportion of the sample differs from the expected proportion and a t-test for the mean values of two groups.

Findings: Chinese migrants most often decide to travel to Slovenia when visiting relatives or friends from China or abroad. They suggest visiting Ljubljana, Bled, Postojna Cave and coastal places. As for food, she is most often recommended Karst prosciutto, Krajina sausage, wine and Bled cream cheese. Activities include visiting lakes and hills, various festivals and relaxing in spas.

Limitations: The research also has some limitations. The most important thing is the size of the sample included in the research. The next limitation is the questionnaire, which will have to be improved based on experience and research findings. Especially in the part that relates to theories of distinction and status symbols in connection with Karst prosciutto.

Practical Implications: Our findings are consistent with existing migration theories, such as social network theory, identity theory, or transnationalism theory. Chinese migrants take advantage of visiting friends and relatives to travel. In addition, we see that Karst prosciutto has an important place among Slovenian culinary products and could be an even better promoter of Slovenia.

Originality: It is the first pilot study among Chinese migrants on the topic of tourism in Slovenia.

Keywords: tourism, motives, Chinese migrants, Slovenia, VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives
