-
Thymomegaly, an enlargement of the thymus gland, is a common finding in young children that can present diagnostic challenges due to its similarity to pathologic mediastinal masses in imaging. This study explores the characteristics, causes, and clinical implications of thymomegaly in pediatric patients, focusing on distinguishing benign thymic enlargement from other mediastinal pathologies. By analyzing clinical data, imaging findings, and immunological markers in a cohort of children under five, the study highlights that thymomegaly in young children is most frequently associated with normal immune development and often regresses without intervention. However, certain cases of persistent or markedly enlarged thymus may be linked to immunodeficiency or other systemic conditions, warranting further investigation. These findings aim to aid clinicians in the early recognition and accurate assessment of thymomegaly, reducing unnecessary interventions while ensuring appropriate management of cases that deviate from typical presentations.
