•
Education, especially tertiary education, is the key to a successful career, financial security, and self-fulfillment. However, some emerging ethical issues include deceptive recruitment practices prevalent in for-profit institutions where the main goal is to get as many students as possible regardless of their well-being. These institutions often provide inaccurate information regarding employment rates, available financial assistance, and, in some cases, accreditation. These practices exploit students, devalue education, and erode institutional integrity. The issue of misleading and fraudulent advertising remains a topical issue, especially in education, where some institutions enroll students under given conditions only to offer an education that does not meet set academic standards. The growing consumer protection regulatory bodies like the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the U.S. Department of Education have sued some schools for deceptive marketing. However, enforcement remains inconsistent. This research aims to look at the history of fraudulent enrollment, the roles of educational institutions and students, its effects on higher learning institutions, and ways of preventing deceptive recruitment practices while encouraging responsibility in college admission
