-
The purpose of this short paper is threefold: First, it is to provide readers with some basic understanding why individualized treatment and service plans came into place and their importance for children with special needs (also those with reading challenges), and also a brief introduction to the different types of individualized plans. Second, the authors want to introduce the Individualized Reading Plan and how it is designed basing on the results obtained from the administration of an informal reading inventory. Third, the main focus of this paper is to highlight to the readers the need to be mindful of the essential components in writing good Individualized Reading Plan (IRP), an equivalent of an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), using the proposed S.M.A.R.T. framework proposed by Chua (2016) with the need for properly written statements to define clearly the aims, goals and objectives for a child with reading challenges in his/her Individualized Reading Plan.
