תוכן הענינים:
-
The authors observed that workers of Pheidole megacephala tended a species of mealybug (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae) in the fresh fruit of Solanum violaceum. We hypothesize that the larvae of scale insects were carried into the fruit during their early instars by Pheidole megacephala. This observation implies that the inner space of fresh plant fruits can, from the view of ants, serve as a domatia in which they can tend honeydew-producing insects.
