•
This study explores the language difficulties encountered by primary school children (Classes I–IV) while engaging with Hindi NCERT textbooks and examines their impact on learning outcomes. The findings reveal that younger children struggle with text complexity, abstract vocabulary, and comprehension tasks beyond literal recall. Key challenges include understanding moral and emotional terms, interpreting abstract concepts, and connecting with unfamiliar content.

The study emphasizes the critical role of visual aids, teacher explanations, and interactive learning methods in enhancing comprehension. Students responded better to activity-based content such as stories with pictures, games, and storytelling. Familiarity with emotional vocabulary was higher due to real-life exposure, while moral and philosophical terms posed greater difficulty.

Recommendations include simplifying textbook language, integrating visual and contextual learning tools, incorporating emotionally and morally relevant content, and encouraging peer discussion. Teacher training in multimodal strategies and regular, holistic assessment methods are also suggested. Addressing these areas can significantly improve language acquisition, comprehension, and emotional literacy among primary students.
