•
This paper introduces the Flourishing Continuum—a meta-theoretical framework that reimagines wellbeing as a dynamic, multi-tiered construct encompassing intrapsychic, interpersonal, and contextual dimensions. Rooted in positive psychology, this model reframes contemporary gender relations not as binary outcomes of harm versus healing, but as fluid expressions along a psychological continuum of human flourishing. Drawing from the DARMA model of diminishment, the NARMA model of languishing, the PERMA model of flourishing, and the SARMA model of over-flourishing or “surgence,” it articulates how relational dynamics are embedded within underlying states of constriction vs. expansion, distortion vs. disputation, and fixation vs. future orientation.

The continuum offers both a diagnostic and developmental lens: a way to assess whether gendered interactions are unconsciously generating patterns of Despair, Absence, Rupture, Moral injury, or Atrophy (DARMA); and a method to restore equilibrium through tools such as VIA Character Strengths, Explanatory Style recalibration, Inversing, and the TURN process (Target, Understand, Replace, Nurture). By weaving these elements into a unified relational architecture, this model challenges the field of positive psychology to move beyond the individual—to account for the cognitive, emotional, and structural dynamics that shape gendered flourishing. In doing so, it extends the discipline’s scope toward a systemic, relationally-rooted science of thriving across all gender identities and configurations.

The framework accommodates a range of gender identities and relational contexts, recognizing that flourishing is a universally relevant construct.
