Rārangi ihirangi:
-
The main objective of this literature review study on the viticultural land structure of the
Douro Demarcated Region (RDD) is to carry out an up-to-date survey of data on the
region's viticultural land structure. A detailed understanding of this structure is extremely
important for future work around environmental sustainability, with a focus on reducing
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the RDD's wine sector. The analysis reveals that the
DDR is facing significant challenges, such as the decrease in the number of winegrowers
and plots, pointing to a trend towards concentration of vineyard areas in certain sub
regions. Furthermore, the Douro region has been the main beneficiary of EU support
programs for vineyard restructuring and conversion. This raises the question of how these
benefits could be combined with a commitment to implementing sustainable practices on
the part of the beneficiaries. The study also addresses the importance of understanding
the viticultural land structure in the Douro region for implementing sustainable practices,
highlighting environmental concerns and promoting innovation in viticulture. An in
depth understanding of the RDD's viticultural land structure is essential for guiding
policies and practices that promote environmental sustainability and the resilience of the
wine sector. The study contributes to directing future research and actions to promote
innovation and sustainability in viticulture, with a view to reducing GHG emissions and
strengthening the wine sector in the DRD.
