This clinical initiative suggests
a strategic plan to develop pediatric telehealth in the Nigerian clinics, with an aim of closing the accessibility, quality
and continuity of care gaps of children, particular in underserved and rural populations. The initiative focuses on the
use of affordable, safe, and accessible to users telehealth platforms depending on the local context and is
complemented by the training of the healthcare providers to increase the level of digital competency, and remote
diagnostic features. It also promotes joint efforts of government agencies, stakeholders in the private sector, and
international health agencies in a bid to sustain funding, adhesion to regulations, and creation of awareness among the
people. This initiative has the potential to push the limit of timely pediatric consultations, alleviate avoidable morbidity
and enhance the overall outcomes of child health taking into consideration the existing penetration of mobile and
internet especially in the light of obstacles like lack of broadband and the accessibility and changes in cost of data and
data literacy. In the proposed approach, rather than a technological improvement, pediatric telehealth is viewed as an
essential and fair healthcare offering of the next generation of the Nigerian population.
