Four different camshafts, with and without chill formation, were prepared from gray and spheroidal cast iron using casting methods. Mechanical tests were conducted to evaluate hardness, wear resistance, impact toughness, and microstructure. The results revealed that chill formation on the surface increased the hardness and wear resistance of both cast iron types, with gray and spheroidal chilled cast irons exhibiting similar wear amounts. The maximum hardness was observed in gray chilled cast iron, while the highest impact toughness was achieved in spheroidal cast iron without chill formation, as chill formation reduced impact toughness. The microstructure of the cast irons was analyzed using an optical microscope, and wear surfaces were examined with a scanning electron microscope to evaluate wear mechanisms.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div>
