- <p><span lang="EN-US">The growing importance of communicative and discursive competences in foreign language education calls for renewed methodological approaches in EFL teaching. This paper examines the challenges and opportunities of developing discursive competence in Uzbekistan’s high school context, focusing on the State Educational Standards and the “Prepare” textbooks. Using a mixed-method approach, the study compares curriculum requirements with classroom practices. Findings reveal that while the standards emphasize communicative goals, time constraints, limited teacher preparation, and insufficient textbook tasks remain obstacles. At the same time, multilingualism, digital tools, and students’ interest in global communication create new opportunities. The paper proposes a methodological model based on individual approaches and interactive strategies.</span></p>
