contents
This research project investigates the spatial assessment of migration and its driving forces in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State, Nigeria. Using a survey of 99 household heads across 11 wards and supported by secondary data, the study examines migration patterns, demographic composition, and the socioeconomic challenges faced by migrants. Theoretical guidance was drawn from Lee’s Theory of Migration and Ravenstein’s Laws of Migration. Findings reveal that migration in Alimosho is predominantly urban-to-urban, with women and educated individuals forming the largest migrant groups. Job opportunities were identified as the strongest pull factor, while unemployment was the primary push factor. Challenges such as limited access to education and employment opportunities remain prevalent. The study recommends employment creation, affordable housing, improved education and healthcare facilities, and financial support initiatives to enhance migrant livelihoods and contribute to sustainable urban development in Lagos.
