Inhoudsopgave:
-
Developing a community’s local tourism has always been regarded as a sustainable tool in
contributing to an equitable sharing of benefits among the stakeholders, apart from the
appreciation visitors achieve from partaking on a destination’s local tourism efforts. Local
tourism assets may come in different forms from natural to something that is organized
and held on identified community sites. This qualitative study described the Mangkelleb
Hill of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya as a pilgrimage site since the start of its initial
development up to its current state, the challenges the management encountered to have it
developed as a known pilgrimage site in the province, and eventually yielded a
recommended plan of actions for the realization of the project’s further development. The
responses of key stakeholders through interviews and focus group discussions from the
community where the site is located were solicited providing answers to the set objectives.
The study was conducted in the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025 and it
likewise endeavored to unfold the key elements that contribute and may further continue
to support a desired level or extent of partnership among key stakeholders to achieve set
goals in relation to a community project anchored on religious and tourism purposes and
activities.

Keywords: local tourism, religious tourism, pilgrimage site, community-based sustainable
tourism (CBST)
