-
This paper is a reflective and evidence-based research essay exploring migration, heritage, and architectural transformation through the lens of personal experience and professional practice. Blending academic inquiry with lived narrative, the paper traces the author’s journey from the colonial and often unregulated urban growth of Nicaragua to the structured, policy-driven landscape of Detroit. It examines themes of housing equity, historical restoration, urban design ethics, and the cultural translation of architectural practice across continents.

Developed as part of graduate research at Purdue University, this work integrates multidisciplinary insights, from urban planning and social innovation to construction management and cultural studies, to propose a holistic view of heritage as a tool for regeneration. It contributes to broader conversations about fair housing, preservation, and the role of architecture in rebuilding identity and community in post-industrial cities.
