-
This whitepaper introduces the Dual-Impact Generative-AI Critical Thinking (DI-GAI-CT) framework—a mechanism-rich model explaining how Generative AI reshapes critical thinking, originality, and cognitive ownership.
Findings from late 2025 reveal a “Paradox of Productivity”: while Generative AI drives record efficiency gains, it simultaneously erodes foundational cognitive capacities through cognitive offloading and loss of ownership.
Drawing from neurocognitive, behavioral, and strategic evidence, the paper defines Ownership Erosion, outlines Intentional Frication as an intervention for restoring engagement, and proposes the Neural Ownership Index (NOI) for future empirical validation.
The work offers governance and educational levers to foster Superagency and metacognitive resilience, ensuring that AI augmentation enhances rather than replaces human criticality and originality.
