- <p><span>This research project was submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Bachelors of Commerce (Honours) degree at St. Aloysius' College (Autonomous), Jabalpur, during the 2022-2023 academic year<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>The study, titled "Impact of Social Media on Youth," <sup></sup></span><span>was supervised by Dr. Surbhi Jain and Mr. Harbaksh Moolchandani<sup></sup><sup></sup></span>.</p> <p><span>The primary objective of the research was to analyze the influence of social media on the social life of youth, evaluate their usage patterns, and assess their attitudes toward these platforms<sup></sup></span>. <span>The study explores both the positive and negative impacts <sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span><span>, including potential risks like cyberbullying <sup></sup></span><span>, depression <sup></sup></span><span>, and distraction from studies <sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span><span>, as well as benefits such as social connection <sup></sup></span><span>, access to information <sup></sup></span><span>, and online learning<sup></sup></span>.</p> <p><span>The research methodology utilized primary data <sup></sup></span><span>collected via a questionnaire <sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span><span>administered to a sample of 50 respondents <sup></sup></span> (fellow students and parents) <span><sup></sup></span><span>within Jabalpur city<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>.</p> <p>Key findings from the data analysis include: <span>* Instagram is the most-used social media platform (48% of respondents)<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>* A majority of respondents (42%) spend 1-2 hours per day on social media<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>* 70% of respondents use social media "very often" for online learning<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>* YouTube was identified as the best platform for education (52%)<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>* A majority (74%) </span><em><span>disagreed</span></em><span> that social media is a distraction to their studies<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>. <span>* 46% of respondents felt social media had a positive effect on their spelling and vocabulary "upto some extent"<sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup><sup></sup></span>.</p>
