Since its discovery in 1997, Caliban has been studied through ground-based photometry, spectroscopy, and dynamical modelling, all of which suggest a low-albedo, organic-rich surface similar to that of Centaurs and trans-Neptunian objects. Its orbit, rotation state, and physical properties provide insights into the capture and long-term evolution of irregular moons in the Uranian system. This paper synthesizes current knowledge on Caliban's composition, orbital history, and scientific significance, and identifies priorities for future exploration.
