  • <p><span lang="EN-US">The article analyses the problem of speech development in preschool children with alalia. It substantiates the idea that alalia has a comprehensive destructive effect on personal development and requires a combination of innovative methods and approaches in speech therapy and corrective work with preschool children. The views of modern scientists on the possibility of using alternative and additional means to help children who do not speak are highlighted, especially in the field of overcoming secondary manifestations of the defect, such as problems with the child's integration into society, cognitive and communicative decline. The most common and promising means of alternative and augmentative communication that contribute to the activation of speech development, the formation of initiative for communication and independent expression are considered. The PECS method is considered separately as the most common and universal, along with its possibilities for activation, speech initiation, main advantages and disadvantages.</span></p>
