-
The study explores the socio-economic status and empowerment ofprofessional women in BelkuchiUpazila of Sirajganj District, Bangladesh. Ithighlights that although women in Bangladesh have historically faceddiscrimination and exclusion from development, a small but growing numberhave entered various professions such as teaching, government service,NGOs, and healthcare. Despite constitutional guarantees of equality, womenremain underrepresented in high-competition sectors due to societal and structural barriers. Most professional women are young, married, and live innuclear families, often juggling dual roles at work and home. Many faceworkplace harassment and lack familial support, though some are inspired byspouses or parents. While their financial contributions are significant,decision-making over their earnings often remains limited. The studyconcludes that though professional women in rural Bangladesh face numerouschallenges, they are gradually gaining visibility and empowerment througheducation, employment, and social change.
