- <p>With the advent of Large Language Models (LLMs) like GPT-4, the boundary between human-like text generation and genuine cognition has blurred. This essay examines the ontological status of current AI through the lens of David Chalmers’ "Philosophical Zombie" thought experiment. It argues that while LLMs exhibit high-level functional intelligence, they lack "qualia" or subjective experience, remaining syntactic engines devoid of semantic understanding.
