  • <p><b><i>Alburnoides tzanevi</i></b></p><p><b>Common name.</b> Thracian spirlin.</p><p><b>Diagnosis.</b> Distinguished from other species of <i>Alburnoides</i> in Mediterranean, Marmara, Black, and Caspian Sea basins and Hari by: ● maximum body depth usually smaller than head length / ○ horizontal eye diameter equal or larger than interorbital distance / ○ ventral keel covered by scales at about half its length / ○ caudal peduncle depth 9–11 % SL / ○ pigmentation of lateral line slightly distinct in anterior part of but indistinct in posterior part / ○ snout length is markedly shorter than interorbital distance / ○ usually 46−52+2−3 lateral-line scales / ○ 11−12½ branched anal rays / ○ 6−8, usually 7, gill rakers. Size up to 94 mm SL.</p><p><b>Distribution.</b> Türkiye and Bulgaria: western Black Sea basin in Trace from Veleca south to İstanbul and east to Karasu (Sinop) drainage. Absent from Sakarya. Anatolian records need confirmation.</p><p><b>Habitat.</b> Hill streams and small rivers with moderate to fast-flowing water and gravel substrate.</p><p><b>Biology.</b> No data.</p><p><b>Conservation status.</b> VU.</p><p><b>Further reading.</b> Chichkoff 1933: 376 (description); Turan et al. 2013a (morphology).</p>
