-
Abstract
Stroke is a sudden disruption of blood flow to the brain caused
by arterial blockage, which results in impaired oxygen and
nutrient supply to brain tissue. One factor that exacerbates
stroke conditions is hypertension, or persistently elevated
arterial blood pressure, which can cause damage to blood
vessels and obstruct blood flow throughout the body, including
the brain. The aim of this study is to provide foot reflexology
massage as a non-pharmacological method to reduce
hypertension in stroke patients. This study used a descriptive
method involving two respondents-stroke patients with
hypertension. The intervention was conducted over three
consecutive days for 10-15 minutes, with blood pressure
measured before and after each session. The results of the
three-day implementation--from May I to May 3, 2025, for
Patient 1. and from May 6 to May 8, 2025, for Patient 2-showed
that after receiving foot reflexology massage, both respondents
experienced a decrease in blood pressure. Patient 1's blood
pressure decreased from 165/100 mmHg to 136/87 mmHg. and
Patient 2's from 163/95 mmHg to 138/80 mmHg. In conclusion,
foot reflexology massage is effective in reducing hypertension
in stroke patients. It is recommended that this intervention be
implemented regularly and independently, both at home and in
hospital settings, for stroke patients with hypertension.
Keywords: Stroke, Hypertension, Foot Reflexology Massage
