•
Mainstream consensus mechanisms (PoW/PoS) each have strengths in security and efficiency, yet they share a structural gap: consensus weight is only weakly coupled with real value creation at the application layer. This gap leads to high energy costs, capital concentration, volume inflation (wash activity), Sybil attacks, and other issues.

This paper proposes Proof of Contribution (POC), a consensus mechanism that strictly anchors consensus weight (hashpower/weight) to auditable on-chain commercial contributions. Built upon ABUE (Asset-Backed User Equity) as the economic foundation, POC transforms C/S/G (Consumption/Supply/Growth) contribution events into on-chain “cash + equity” returns, compresses the return trajectory into a computable and auditable contribution value, and maps it to effective consensus weight. To achieve deployability and robustness against adversarial behavior, we introduce: modular application onboarding with governance weighting, a dual-timescale structure with short-epoch accounting and long-epoch consensus snapshots, within-application “only-downward” hashpower normalization to mitigate wealth polarization, short-epoch decay to prevent historical dominance, per-application value caps and localized negative-contribution offsets to track ecosystem ups and downs, and security modules such as cold-start bonding, delayed activation windows, decentralized identity, bounty reporting, and application down-weighting/removal.

Furthermore, POC can be combined with weighted BFT protocols such as Tendermint/HotStuff: POC computes weight allocation while BFT provides fast finality and tamper resistance, jointly achieving “value anchoring” and “finality security” under real-world engineering constraints.
