  • <p><em><span lang="EN-US">Edgar Allan Poe’s contribution in the development of tragic mood in American literature is enormous. Especially his short story ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ not only signals the start of psychological horror but also characterizes one of the most stylistic features in the examples of Gothic literature. This paper explores the issue of tragic life and fictional representation of the guilt and conscience in his short story “The Tell-Tale Heart” (1843). It demonstrates how Poe constructs tragic atmosphere through a unique combination of psychological depth, symbolic imagery, and stylistic precision.</span></em></p>
