- This study presents a structured approach to improving cockpit crew scheduling efficiency in a leading Saudi airline through the application of the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) DMAIC methodology. One key tool was applied in each phase to ensure focus and clarity in problem solving. SIPOC mapping was used in the Define phase to outline process boundaries and stakeholder relationships. Control charts in the Measure phase established performance baselines and identified variability. The Analyze phase employed a Fishbone diagram to determine root causes of inefficiencies. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) in the Improve phase was used to redesign the scheduling workflow and eliminate non-value-added steps. Finally, a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) dashboard in the Control phase ensured ongoing performance tracking and sustainability. The results demonstrated measurable improvements in crew productivity, absenteeism rate, and planning accuracy, providing a data-driven foundation for long-term operational excellence in aviation resource management.
