- <p><strong><span lang="EN-US">What this study adds</span></strong><span lang="EN-US">. This study of 1861 hospitalized patients reveals a mortality rate of 32.9%. Most patients (61.7%) were at AIDS stage (WHO IV), with a tuberculosis co-infection prevalence of 70.3%. Hepatic and renal failure, as well as WHO stage IV, were strongly associated with death.</span></p> <p><strong><span lang="EN-US">Implications</span></strong><span lang="EN-US">. These findings highlight the extreme severity of cases at admission.
