-
Carbon is commonly described as a “building block of life,” but this description understates its role. Carbon is not merely structural; it is dynamic, resonant, and phase-flexible. Its unique electron configuration allows it to form linear chains, planar sheets, three-dimensional lattices, and mobile molecular carriers at biological temperatures. These properties make carbon the only element capable of acting simultaneously as matter, scaffold, and charge-transport medium.

This paper presents carbon as a coherence medium: a geometry-switching, electron-sharing substrate that enables biological organization, metabolic energy flow, neural signaling, and planetary-scale regulation. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is reframed as the mobile transport phase of carbon-based coherence, linking respiration, ion transport, and energetic regulation. From mitochondria to atmosphere, carbon functions as the connective tissue between chemistry, electricity, and plasma-like behavior.

carbon coherence

Carbon dioxide physiology

Electron transport

Mitochondrial bioenergetics

Carbon cycle

Respiratory control

Plasma biology

Ion transport

Neural bioelectricity

Gaia biogeochemistry

Phase-flexible matter

Biological coherence

Metabolic regulation

Carbon geometry

Living systems physics
