•
The present study examines phraseological units as pragmatically significant linguistic resources in the German language and explores their methodological application in language teaching and linguistic analysis. Within the framework of pragmalinguistics, phraseological units are viewed not merely as stable lexical combinations with idiomatic meaning, but as functionally loaded elements that regulate interaction, express speaker stance, and structure discourse. The article argues that phraseological units serve as conventionalized solutions to recurrent communicative tasks, such as mitigation, evaluation, solidarity-building, and discourse management. Drawing on examples from contemporary German, the study demonstrates how pragmatic meaning emerges through context-dependent usage rather than through lexical semantics alone. Special attention is given to the pedagogical implications of a pragmalinguistic approach to phraseology, highlighting its role in developing communicative competence and pragmatic awareness in learners of German as a foreign language. The findings support the integration of corpus-based and pragmatically oriented methods into phraseological instruction and discourse analysis.
