•
Resource extraction projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are increasingly prevalent, yet their impact on human rights remains under-researched. A mixed-methods approach was employed, including both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Data collection took place across several regions in DRC, with over 500 participants from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The findings indicate that approximately 60% of respondents reported violations related to environmental degradation and displacement due to resource extraction projects. Resource extraction projects in the DRC are significantly impacting human rights, particularly concerning environmental integrity and community displacement. Legal protections for affected communities need strengthening. Government authorities should enforce stricter compliance with international human rights standards and provide adequate compensation and rehabilitation programmes for affected communities.
