This cross-sectional study investigated the expressed symptoms and correlates of common psychological disorders among secondary school students aged 13-19 years. The study employed a school-based survey design with standardized screening instruments to assess depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, and stress-related conditions among 820 adolescents. Results revealed that 25.4% of adolescents screened positive for psychological morbidity, with depression (23.3%) and anxiety disorders (22%) being most prevalent. Significant correlates identified included academic pressure, peer pressure, family conflict, sleep disturbances, substance use, body image concerns, lack of extracurricular engagement, and psychological stress. Female adolescents reported higher rates of emotional symptoms, while male adolescents showed greater conduct problems. The findings underscore the urgent need for school-based mental health screening, early intervention programs, and culturally appropriate support services tailored to the unique challenges faced by Indian adolescents.

Index Terms - Indian adolescents, psychological disorders, depression, anxiety, academic stress, mental health, cross-sectional study, school-based screening.
