•
This study investigates the efficacy of school-based mental health care programmes in preventing early stunting among urban South African children. Data from school records were analysed using logistic regression models to determine the impact of mental health care interventions on stunting rates. A logistic regression model revealed that children in schools with comprehensive mental health programmes had a 15% lower probability (OR = 0.85, CI: 0.76-0.95) of experiencing early stunting compared to those without such programmes. Despite the positive trend, further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms and optimise programme implementation. Programmes should be expanded with additional support services for children at risk, and longitudinal studies are recommended to track long-term health outcomes. early stunting, school-based mental health care, urban South Africa, logistic regression
