•
This study examines the historical origins of the settlement of Harunuşağı located in the Kürecik region of Akçadağ district in Malatya province, Turkey. The research analyzes Ottoman tax registers (tahrir defters), tribal histories, local oral narratives, and the geographical structure of the Kürecik mountain basin.

Sixteenth-century Ottoman records indicate that the Kürecik area was part of the Kederbeyt nahiye and was characterized by a settlement system composed of numerous villages and mezras (hamlets). The study proposes that Harunuşağı likely emerged as a lineage-based settlement during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries within the broader tribal settlement dynamics of the Kürecik mountain basin.

The article also presents the reconstructed settlement list of the 1560 Kederbeyt nahiye and discusses the possible historical relationship between Kürne and Kürecik as part of a mountain settlement network.
