•
Abstract

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 represents a transformative milestone in India's educational landscape, marking the first comprehensive policy overhaul in over three decades. This policy document addresses the critical need to integrate Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) into contemporary education while fostering a holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary approach to learning. Incorporating IKS into contemporary education has become essential due to the growing global interest in holistic and sustainable knowledge. Indian civilization has fostered knowledge traditions for cultural identity in addition to advancing scientific ideas worldwide. India has long been a place of profound learning and varied traditions. Bringing such information back into the classroom is a significant move made by the NEP 2020. The Indian Knowledge System provides valuable insights into atomic theory, cosmology, and the holistic nature of existence. The practices of yoga and meditation, key elements of IKS, improve concentration, mental health, and coordination, enhancing physical education. The Indian higher education system is supported and regulated by several national-level councils and statutory bodies that ensure quality, standardization, and continuous development across different disciplines. The presence of specialized councils strengthens governance, encourages innovation, and enhances the overall quality of higher education in India.
