Body largly uniformly brown (Fig. 1), tarsi almost yellow.Antennae 8-segmented; segment III yellow, IV yellow basally and brown apically, V brown in apical fourth (Fig. 8); fore wing slightly dusky with base paler. Head broader than long; eyes without pigmented facets; ocellar setae III arise on anterolateral side of ocellar triangle behind the first ocellus; post ocular setae IV smaller than I, II, III and V (Fig. 4). Pronotum wider than long with weak transverse striations anteriorly and posteriorly; pronotal disc with more than 25 discal setae, with only one pair of postero-angular setae developed (Fig. 6); posterior margin with 4 pairs of setae inner to major angular setae (Fig. 6). Mesonotum with transverse lines, anterior campaniform sensilla present. Metanotum with longitudinal lines; median setae arising behind anterior margin; campaniform sensilla absent (Fig. 7). Fore wing first vein with 3 distal setae. Abdominal tergites with no lines of sculpture near median pair of setae (Fig. 2); tergite II with 3 lateral marginal setae; ctenidia present on tergites V–VIII, terminating laterally on VI–VII at tergal setae S3, but mesad of the spiracles on VIII; posteromarginal comb on VIII complete (Fig. 5); IX with two pairs of campaniform sensilla, X with incomplete median split. Pleurotergites II–V with 1–2 discal setae. Sternites III–VII with discal setae (Fig. 3); II with 2 pairs of marginal setae; III–VIII with 3 pairs of marginal setae.

Measurements. (Holotype female in microns). Body length 950. Head, length 95; width across eyes 105; ocellar setae III 15. Pronotum, length 100; width 145; posteroangular setae 52. Fore wing length 580. Antennal segments III–VIII length 40, 38, 30, 43, 6, 10.

Male unknown.

Material studied. Holotype female, IRAN, Isfahan province, Feridon Shahr, Cheshmeh Langan, from flowers of Clivia sp., (family Amaryllidaceae) 25.iv.2025. Paratype 1 female, with same data as Holotype.

Etymology: The new species is named on Latinized adjective form based on ‘Isfahan’ city from where it was collected. This city is one of the major cities of Iran in terms of tourism attractions and historical monuments.

Comments: The new species described here, has the typical character states of genus Thrips. Most species within this large genus have two pairs of posteroangular setae on the pronotum. However, two species, T. antiaropsidis Zerega, Mound & Weiblen, and T. unispinus Moulton share with T. isfahanicus sp. nov. the character state of having only one pair of elongate pronotal posteroangular setae. From T. unispinus, the new species is different by having antennae 8 segmented (versus 7 segmented in T. unispinus). The new species is different from T. antiaropsidis by having the metanotum with longitudinal lines (versus metanotum strongly reticulate in T. antiaropsidis). From both, T. isfahanicus sp. nov. is different by color of body, campaniform sensilla on metanotum (absent in T. isfahanicus sp. nov., present in those species), comb on tergite VIII incomplete in T. antiaropsidis and T. unispinus but complete in the new species described here.
