-
121. Diapus pusillimus Chapuis

Diapus pusillimus Chapuis, 1865: 335.

Distribution. Widely distributed from India through Southeast Asia and Indonesia to New Guinea, Australia and the Pacific Islands.Africa and Madagascar are included in the distribution by Wood (1960), Browne (1961a) and Schedl (1972a), but we have found no published records. The species is not included in Schedl’s (1965, 1977) monographs of the Platypodinae of the region.

Distribution in W. Malaysia. Pahang, Perak, Penang, Selangor.

Hosts. Polyphagous (e.g. Browne 1961a; Ohno et al. 1989; Ohno 1990; Wood & Bright 1992).

Biology. It attacks unhealthy or felled trees, usually of large size (Browne 1961a). The courtship, mating behaviour and general biology of the species in Australia have been described by Smith (1935, as Crossotarsus grevilleae Lea), who suggests there is one generation per year. Browne (1961a) notes that development of the brood in Malaysia is far more rapid, taking just a few weeks.
