•
The anticancer activity of the ethanolic extract of Desmanthus virgatus was explored against the human lung cancer cell line A549 by phytochemical, insilico, and in vitro methods. The presence of phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids was confirmed by preliminary phytochemical screening. The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of major bioactive compounds such as dl-α-tocopherol and ergosta-4,6,22-trien-3-ol. Molecular docking analysis showed strong binding affinity with a cancer-related protein target, which supported the anti proliferative activity. The MTT assay showed dose-dependent cytotoxicity with an IC50 value of 42.79 µg/mL. Morphological alterations in treated cells confirmed apoptosis. The results suggest that D.virgatus is a potential natural source for anticancer compounds.
