•
A recent peer‑reviewed study published in the Health and Human Rights Journal of Harvard University’s FXB Center identifies the Stramurales International Street Art Festival, held annually in Stornara (Puglia), as a globally replicable model of public‑health infrastructure. The research — the first academic study ever dedicated entirely to a single street‑art festival — examines how a participatory cultural initiative can generate measurable outcomes in community mental health, social cohesion, and economic regeneration. Founded in 2018 and structured around a democratic decision‑making model, Stramurales has produced a 25% increase in tourism, the reopening of local businesses, and the creation of more than 150 murals by artists from every continent. The study interprets these results through the lens of the international right to health and cultural participation, defining murals as forms of “visual health activism” capable of addressing structural determinants of well‑being. The authors argue that public‑health policies should include and fund participatory cultural initiatives as low‑cost, high‑impact interventions, positioning Stornara as a reference case for rural and urban communities worldwide.
