  • <div> <p class="MsoNormal"><em><span>Formulation and Evaluation of Herbal Vaginal Suppository Using Neem Herbal drug delivery systems have gained increasing attention due to their safety, efficacy, and reduced side effects compared to synthetic formulations. Among various medicinal plants, neem (Azadirachta indica) is widely recognized for its potent antimicrobial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties. The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a herbal vaginal suppository incorporating neem extract for the treatment of vaginal infections such as candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis. The suppositories were formulated using neem leaf extract as the active ingredient, along with suitable bases such as polyethylene glycol (PEG) and glycerinated gelatin to ensure proper consistency, stability, and drug release. The fusion method was employed for preparation, where the base materials were melted and mixed with the neem extract, followed by pouring into moulds and allowing them to solidify. Different formulations were prepared by varying the concentration of neem extract and base composition to optimize the formulation. The prepared suppositories were evaluated for various physicochemical parameters, including appearance, weight variation, hardness, melting point, and drug content uniformity. The surface of the suppositories was found to be smooth and uniform without any cracks or air bubbles. The weight variation test indicated that all formulations were within acceptable limits, ensuring uniformity of dosage. Hardness testing confirmed that the suppositories possessed sufficient mechanical strength to withstand handling during packaging and transportation.</span></em></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><strong><em><span>Key words: </span></em></strong><em><span>Cosmeceutical, Antioxidant, Pigmentation, Lipophilicity, Acne.</span></em></p> </div>
