•
This version presents a revised and substantially clarified formulation of the C–A Framework, introducing a two-threshold model of emergent awareness.

The manuscript formalises awareness as a threshold-dependent property of system organisation and distinguishes between two empirically tractable transitions: (i) the emergence of experiential awareness (A₁) from biological organisation (B), and (ii) the emergence of recursive awareness (A₂), defined by self-referential modelling within an already integrated system.

Key updates in this version include:

explicit formalisation of two organisational thresholds (μ₁ and μ₂)

clearer separation between experiential awareness (A₁) and recursive awareness (A₂)

expanded testable predictions, including differential stability and recovery dynamics between A₁ and A₂

improved alignment with empirical findings from sleep, anaesthesia, and developmental research

refinement of terminology and structure to strengthen clarity and internal consistency

These revisions aim to present the framework as a more precise and empirically grounded contribution, with clearly defined conditions for testing the emergence and variation of awareness across systems.
