- <p>The preferential option for the poor has become a constituent of Catholic Social Teaching. Pope Francis was called the “Pope of the peripheries.” This title highlights his authentic witness to the Gospel; the Church is called to live the joy of the Gospel, especially with the poor and the needy. She is sent to the marginalized, sick, and vulnerable. This article tries to trace the theological and ethical roots of his teaching and the relevance of the evangelization today.</p>
