•
This work introduces a minimal framework to evaluate the feasibility of large-scale transformations in the human–Earth system under finite response time constraints. It distinguishes system viability—the state of the Earth system—from transformation feasibility—the ability to implement required changes within a limited time window.

Feasibility is defined by the margin Δ(τ) = Ψ_eff − R, where effective transformative capacity (Ψ_eff) competes with systemic resistance (R) under a finite response time τ. This formulation leads to a classification of planetary domains into transformable, marginal, and trapping regimes, revealing that transformation outcomes are governed not only by proximity to planetary thresholds, but by time-constrained feasibility.

The framework introduces the concept of effective irreversibility, in which transformations remain physically possible but become infeasible within the available time. By linking capacity, resistance, and timescale, it provides a unified diagnostic for identifying intervention windows and prioritizing action across planetary domains.

This work complements existing planetary boundary and tipping-point frameworks by adding an explicit feasibility condition under temporal constraints.
