  • <p>This study aims to determine the effect of interactive learning media based on puzzle games on the ability to write explanatory texts. The study population was all 8th grade students totaling 188. The research sample was 31 students of class VIII-C. The research method used a quantitative method. The research instrument used was an experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. Based on the research results, the ability to write explanatory textsBefore using the puzzle game media, the average score was 53.87, which was considered insufficient. 4 students (12.90%) obtained the good category, 12 students (38.70%) obtained the sufficient category, 6 students (19.35%) obtained the poor category, and 9 students (29.03%) obtained the very poor category. The ability to write explanatory text after using puzzle game media has an average of 72.41 which is considered good. 7 students (22.58%) received the very good category, 20 students (64.51%) received the good category, 3 students (9.67%) received the sufficient category, and 1 student (3.2%) received the very poor category. The results of this study found that there was a significant influence on the use of interactive puzzle game media to improve the ability to write explanatory text in grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 37 Medan, Indonesia.</p>
