Traditional soil testing methods, while reliable, are time-consuming and do not offer real-time results. Smart sensors and the Internet of Things (IoT) have revolutionized soil monitoring, including pH, salinity, and fertility. These technologies provide continuous, real-time data gathering and analysis, allowing farmers to make more informed decisions about irrigation, fertilization, and crop management. Smart sensor-based systems that interact with IoT platforms increase resource efficiency, minimize environmental impact, and improve agricultural production and quality. This article examines the ideas, components, uses, benefits, and limitations of employing smart sensors and IoT for soil monitoring, as well as future directions in precision agriculture.
