- <p><strong>La leyenda de Lorenzo: origen del duende contemporáneo en Baños de Agua Santa</strong> documenta el relato fundacional de Lorenzo, figura simbólica central de La Casa del Duende y punto de origen narrativo del duende contemporáneo en Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador.</p> <p>El informe reconstruye una memoria autoral iniciada en 2012, durante el viaje sudamericano de Fito Girolami y Catalina Lucz-Ligeti. En ese contexto, ambos creadores se encontraban en Río Verde, frente a la entrada clásica del Pailón del Diablo, en una casita arrendada a doña María Landa. Allí fue creado un primer duende de gran porte, acompañado por un garabato encontrado en el lugar: herramienta local utilizada para ayudar al machete en el desmalezado, que fue incorporada a la figura como bastón.</p> <p>El documento analiza cómo ese objeto territorial, inicialmente funcional, se transformó en atributo simbólico; cómo la figura, pensada en un comienzo como pieza disponible para la venta, acompañó posteriormente a sus creadores en el viaje por Colombia y Venezuela; y cómo, ya estando en Colombia, recibió el nombre de Lorenzo. Al regresar a Baños de Agua Santa, Fito y Catalina recuperaron el garabato original mediante un acuerdo de mantenimiento con el propietario de otra obra, devolviéndole a Lorenzo su bastón fundacional.</p> <p>Desde esa secuencia —creación en Río Verde, objeto territorial, nombramiento en Colombia, retorno a Baños y recuperación del bastón— Lorenzo se consolida como el alma simbólica de La Casa del Duende. El informe propone comprender esta historia como una leyenda contemporánea documentada: una forma de mitogénesis territorial nacida desde el arte autoral, el viaje, la memoria material y la relación con el paisaje.</p> <p>Este trabajo forma parte de la línea de investigación del Archivo Observatorio Cultural Independiente sobre leyendas, memoria territorial, folklore, creación autoral contemporánea, Duendismo Cultural y procesos de simbolización turística en Baños de Agua Santa.</p> <h1> </h1> <p><strong>The Legend of Lorenzo: Origin of the Contemporary Duende in Baños de Agua Santa</strong> documents the foundational story of Lorenzo, a central symbolic figure of La Casa del Duende and a narrative point of origin for the contemporary duende phenomenon in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador.</p> <p>The report reconstructs an authorial memory that began in 2012 during the South American journey of Fito Girolami and Catalina Lucz-Ligeti. At that time, the creators were staying in Río Verde, near the traditional entrance to Pailón del Diablo, in a small house rented from Doña María Landa. There, they created their first large-scale duende figure and incorporated into it a locally found object known as a garabato, a curved tool used to assist machete work when clearing vegetation.</p> <p>The document analyzes how this territorial object, originally functional, became a symbolic staff; how the figure, initially conceived as a piece available for sale, continued traveling with its creators through Colombia and Venezuela; and how, while in Colombia, it received the name Lorenzo. Upon returning to Baños de Agua Santa, Fito and Catalina recovered the original garabato through a maintenance agreement with the owner of another artwork, returning Lorenzo’s foundational staff to him.</p> <p>Through this sequence —creation in Río Verde, territorial object, naming in Colombia, return to Baños, and recovery of the staff— Lorenzo became the symbolic soul of La Casa del Duende.
