•
This article examines the main linguistic, terminological and methodological problems of translating modern medical terminology from English into Russian. The relevance of the research is determined by the rapid development of medical science, the globalization of healthcare communication, the dominant role of English in international medical discourse, and the growing demand for high-quality translation of scientific articles, clinical guidelines, pharmaceutical instructions, medical reports and patient-oriented materials. The article analyzes the specific features of medical terminology as a system of specialized lexical units and identifies the most common translation difficulties: polysemy, synonymy, false friends of the translator, abbreviations and acronyms, eponyms, neologisms, borrowings, calques, Latin-Greek elements, and the lack of standardized equivalents. Special attention is paid to the problem of choosing between transliteration, calque, descriptive translation and functional equivalent. The study also considers the role of context, target audience and professional competence in achieving terminological accuracy. The article concludes that the translation of modern medical terminology requires not only language proficiency, but also terminological literacy, medical background knowledge and the ability to work with specialized dictionaries, classifications and international databases.
