-
This study examines gendered pricing, often known as the “pink tax”, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. The “pink tax” is examined in these countries in both goods and services, primarily in areas like self-care. The results show that the US shows the steepest difference in price, whereas Southeast Asia has a relatively low difference in both genders’ products, but still a difference that is large enough to be concerned about. The research also compares the three countries, examining each of the cultures, economies, social norms, etc. The discussions in this paper address how this gendered pricing affects women, specifically teenagers and women from lower-income families. This paper provides policy implications and potential long-term solutions to these issues, like awareness on social media, campaigns created by women and consumers, and larger businesses investing time to decrease the pink tax.
