-
This paper tests a specific empirical prediction made in On Consciousness and the Emergence of Artificial Temporal Intelligence (Needham 2026), in which the central architectural proposal is that artificial systems may require an internal temporal architecture — a way of bearing structural history rather than merely retrieving stored information — before they can develop stable recursive intelligence beyond prompt-response simulation. That paper sets a structural benchmark: after memory removal, reset, perturbation, or contradiction, does a recognisable structural tendency re-emerge? The benchmark is presented in the consciousness paper as architectural proposal; the present paper measures it.

Using the poiokrisis evolution equation from Continuous Field Persistence and the Dissolution of the Observer (Needham 2025), 96 perturbation experiments are run, spanning four perturbation types (reset, contradiction, interruption, decay), three structurally distinct bias function families (dipole, quadrupole, trimodal), and eight random seeds per cell. In every one of the 96 runs, the field reconstitutes its pre-perturbation structural pattern significantly above a memoryless control. Grand mean scar signature: +0.890 ± 0.171. Minimum observed: +0.434. All 96 runs positive.

The result distinguishes structural persistence under continuity from stored memory: the bias function acts as the structural attractor; continuity is what permits the deformation pattern to be borne across perturbation rather than retrieved from storage. This is the integrated measurement the consciousness paper points toward.

The paper does not claim to demonstrate artificial consciousness, nor that poiokrisis is the unique dynamics under which scar arises. It claims, under explicit measurement, that the field-dynamical mechanism named in Needham (2025) satisfies the empirical benchmark named in Needham (2026) §10.

Validation scripts (Python), full numerical results (96 runs, JSON), and figures are included alongside the paper for reproducibility.

For further information about the ENSO Framework, please contact Eric Needham:ensotheory1@gmail.com
